Blue Innovations Group (BIG) has shared the first images of the R30, a nine-meter-long electric motorboat with 800 PS (789 hp / 588 kW) under its command. It will be featured at the upcoming CES show in January.
According to Elektrek, BIG is headed by none other than John Vo, the former Tesla executive who supervised the company’s global sales in 2011–2017.
As for the motorboat, it features an aluminum body and runs on LiFePo4 batteries summing up to 221 kilowatt-hours of capacity. Extendable 2.7kW solar panels can replenish a small fraction of the charge on sunny days, and the boat maxes out at 72 km/h (45 mph). The rest of the parameters remain to be revealed.
The manufacturer points out that the material choices for the hull and the batteries were fully deliberate. The company tried to use affordable EV tech wherever it could while ensuring the longevity of the boat.
Judging by the sketches, the cabin layout will be flexible to a certain extent. The cabin in particular looks like something out of a Tesla car – note especially the two large displays and the steering yoke.
The first prototype is scheduled for debut in early 2023. The company says actual deliveries will not begin until the second half of 2024, but pre-orders are already running starting from U.S. $300,000.
