Chinese automotive startup Aiways, which has been around for five years, has finally announced the technical specs and pricing for its U6 EV. The coupe-like crossover premiered in production form last year.
It is official now that the car will ship with two battery sizes to choose from and cost from 219,900 CNY. All-wheel drive will not be an option.
The SUV is 4.8 meters long with 2.8 meters between the axles. Its drag ratio is remarkably low at 0.25. Aside from the slanted roof, the novelty features a two-tone body, an unpainted aero kit and concealed door handles.
Unusual features inside include a small dashboard and a gear selector looking like something out of an aircraft. The HVAC control panel sits on the center console in front of the armrest. The panoramic sunroof is larger than 2.1 square meters.
Power is supplied by a single electric motor on the front axle rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 315 Nm (232 lb-ft) of torque. The traction battery choices are 63 and 72 kWh. The former gives you a 6.9-second standard sprint time and 505 km (314 miles) of CLTC-rated range. The latter weighs the car down, resulting in a 7.2-second launch, but extends the range to 590 km (366.6 miles).
The range-topping SUV comes in at 237,900 CNY, which is barely above the base spec. Later on. Aiways plans to introduce the U6 in Europe, where it is also selling another SUV named U5.
