Turkey slaps tariffs on China-made EVs

Europe and the USA aren’t alone in their determination to stop the continuing invasion of Chinese electric car brands.

Turkey has just enacted a 40% import fee on all electric vehicles brought in from China, but no less than U.S. $7,000 per vehicle. Aside from protecting local automakers, like Togg (see the gallery and the video), the government of the country hopes to straighten its external trade balance via these measures.

In the meantime, automakers from China have been actively gaining foothold in Mexico with the view of producing their EVs there and importing them into the States at a meager 2.5% tariff instead of the recently enacted 100%.
