Togg launches electric SUV production in Turkey

Automaker Togg has greenlit its C-Class SUV into production in the town of Bursa in northwestern Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself participated in the factory launch ceremony.

The company has not provided any new information regarding the crossover SUV and its tech. The original concept debuted three years ago with 2.8 meters (9.2 feet) of wheelbase and two powertrains to choose from. We don’t know whether the parameters announced back then have changed, but here they are – just in case.

The entry spec had a single electric motor on the rear axle driving it with 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW). It could sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 7.6 seconds and had up to 300 km (186 miles) of range from a battery pack of unspecified size.

The other spec combined two motors in an all-wheel-drive configuration rated at 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW). It could make the standard sprint in 4.8 seconds and got up to 500 km (310 miles) from its larger battery.

The first production batches will be delivered to government officials and diplomats ahead of the rest of the market. Public sales are expected to begin in March 2023, with the prices lying in the equivalent range of U.S. $43,000–$54,000.

For the first year and a half since launch, Togg plans to sell the electric SUV exclusively on the domestic market. Later on, the company plans to enter the markets of Germany, France and other EU countries, producing up to 100,000 annual units.
