Toyota to introduce a solid-state-battery car during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Toyota is currently working on a brand-new traction battery type for personal transports, based on a solid-state power storage. A concept car powered by this innovative tech will debut at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, although first mass-produced EVs using it won’t appear until at least 2025.

According to unofficial sources, the self-driving e-Palette (depicted here) will be the first car to try out the new tech. All details are being kept secret at the moment, but the manufacturer claims that charging the solid-state battery only takes several minutes at most, and the power storage density is ‘unprecedented’.
