The carmaker has patented multiple schematics in the United States depicting an unusual drop-top car with its roof designed not unlike an airplane taillight. Industry pros have voiced opinions that this technology would find use in the road-legal version of the GR Super Sport hypercar.
One of the images details the left and right locking mechanisms and how they open. Another one shows side sills and the boarding/deboarding routine.
Media first learned about the road-legal GR Super Sport back in 2018, when a prototype vehicle developed by Gazoo Racing debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon. The concept car packed a 2.4-liter turbo engine and an electric motor, and reportedly had around 1,000 horsepower (745 kilowatts).
