New Toyota EV to go 0-100% charge in 10 minutes

The next Toyota concept car should debut in 2021 and feature a solid-state battery rated for 500 km (310 miles) of range. The interesting thing is, you will be able to charge it in ten minutes.

The new battery tech aims to address some of the issues the current lithium-ion tech has. This includes eliminating the need for liquid electrolytic solutions, which are flammable, accelerating charging times, and extending the range by more than twice.

If successful, Toyota will be the world’s first car company to sell cars with solid-state batteries. A similar tech is under development at Nissan, but the company says it probably won’t be ready until 2028.

The design study will debut in a compact-sized body with a spacious interior. Originally slated for premiere at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that were cancelled due to the Covid, it should now come into the spotlight in 2021.
