Woven Planet pledges to develop “transports of the future”

Three years ago, Aisin Seiki, Denso and Toyota Motor Corporation joined efforts to found the Toyota Research Institute – Advanced Development (TRI-AD for short), which has now morphed into the Woven Planet Group.

The newly emerged corporation will pursue mobility and innovative means of transportation. Autonomy will become one of its priorities, although not the only one. To this end, the company will monitor the driver, the passengers and the environment, research machine vision and machine learning, and develop simulators to study the interactions between people and vehicles. The main priority is ensuring safe transportation.

Woven Planet Holdings will head the corporation with CEO James J. Kuffner at the rudder. James Kuffner had studied robotics and IT, promoted science in Japan, developed new algorithms for robots, and helped Google design its shuttle buses in 2009–2016.
