Toyota readies three EVs for USA debut in 2021

Toyota makes and sells all manner of hybrid cars now, but seems hesitant to go fully electric. By the looks of it, things are finally going to change in the coming months.

Details are scant, but according to Automotive News, two pure battery EVs and a PHEV are coming to the U.S. market in 2021, including an electric SUV.

The Japanese automotive giant has been perfecting its e-TNGA platform for a long time now, claiming that it would lend itself well to all sorts of electrified powertrains.

This is not to say Toyota has never dealt with EVs before. Back in the 1990s, people in California could purchase a battery-powered variant of the RAV4 (watch the video for an interesting coverage of that model). Furthermore, the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai available now also uses an electric motor for propulsion.
