Toyota has shown us a few new images and technical specifications of its upcoming crossover SUV co-designed with Subaru. Called the bZ4X, it is set to hit the showrooms floors in the summer of 2022.
The off-roader will get per-wheel suspension by default and offer a choice between one and two motors. The former spec will make do with a single front-axle mounted electric motor rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW), which will enable it to sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.4 seconds. A 71.4-kWh traction battery on board will give it up to 500 kilometers (310 miles) of WLTC-rated range.
The top spec will pack dual motors rated at 109 PS (107 hp / 80 kW) each and will need 7.7 seconds for its sprint routine. The same battery will yield only 460 kilometers (286 miles) of range.
Thanks to being based on the e-TNGA platform, the car will make intensive use of high-tensile steels to protect its driver, passengers AND floor-mounted batteries from harm. Despite being 4.69 meters (183.2 inches) long with 2.85 meters (111.3 inches) of wheelbase, the SUV has a whole meter (39 inches) of space between the first and the second seat row.
Inside, the dashboard sits above the upper rim of the steering wheel to minimize eye movements and fatigue during driving. Higher trims will ship with a “steer-by-wire” rudder instead of a conventional mechanical wheel.
