Toyota was the world’s leading carmaker in 2022

Toyota Motor Corporation has shared its results for the past year. Despite a 0.1% decline in sales, the company still managed to find buyers for 10,483,000 cars, becoming the world’s largest automaker. Volkswagen Group came a distant second.

In its annual report, Toyota pointed out production increases across the board. It also included some sub-brands into the equation, such as Daihatsu and Hino, the latter associated with commercial transports. VW Group used the same overall methods and came up with 8,262,800 units sold – a 7% decline year-to-year.

Toyota-badged vehicles accounted for 9,566,961 sales, while Volkswagen-badged ones barely exceeded 4,560,000. Despite the fact that the previous year was 0.5% more successful for the Japanese corporation, it pointed out that it managed to expand worldwide production at the expense of the domestic market. In Japan, Toyota pieced together 7.7% fewer cars than in 2021, but its other industrial sites around the world helped compensate for the covid-related domestic troubles. All in all, the car giant churned out 9,026,713 new cars in 2022 (+5.2% year-on-year).
