Toyota to produce 10 new EVs by 2026

Speaking at a recent press conference, Toyota executives revealed the revised electrification strategy the company plans to stick to for the next three years. Most notably, the automaker hopes to launch 10 brand-new all-electric vehicles by the end of 2025 and hit 1,500,000 sales per year. One of these cars was shown at the event.

During the speech of Executive VP Hiroki Nakajima, the outlines of a new electric car were projected onto the backdrop with sophisticated bumpers, a sloped roof slanting towards the rear end, cameras instead of side mirrors and a Lexus badge on the c-pillar.

Nakajima said work was in progress on designing new premium EVs for the Lexus brand. They are apparently all scheduled to debut in or around 2026 and offer twice as much driving range compared to their current-generation counterparts thanks to new, efficient batteries. Per Nakajima, they also sport interesting new designs and are driver-focused.

In the United States, the company plans to begin the production of a seven-seater SUV in 2025 that will run on batteries made in North Carolina. In China, the existing bZ4X and bZ3 models will be accompanied by two more bZ-family vehicles designed with the customers’ wishes and suggestions in mind. A new all-electric pickup truck and a compact car will be introduced on the developing markets.

In addition to the above, Toyota will continue working on mild and plug-in hybrids. The latter category is expected to improve its all-electric range to 200 km (124 miles) or more soon. Hydrogen cars are also being conceptualized, but largely as commercial vehicles at this point.
