Toyota sets a production record in H1 2023

Toyota Motor Corporation has published a performance report for the first half of 2023, highlighting that it managed to manufacture a record-high number of vehicles worldwide – 5,627,437 units. Viewed in year-on-year terms, the production has risen by 10.3% worldwide and by 20.6% in Japan (to 2,102,227 units).

The manufacturer points out that a distinct trend towards restoration has begun following the Covid-19 pandemic and the ensuing microchip supply disruptions. Toyota and Lexus have sold 4,893,771 vehicles combined over the reported period, showing an impressive growth of 12.1%.

At the same time, all other marques owned by Toyota Motor Corp. have demonstrated mild downward trends: Daihatsu went down 0.5 percent with 649,217 cars made and Hino went down 1.3 percent with 84,449 units. On the upside, Daihatsu boosted its out-of-country production by 3.6 percent to 252,732 units.

As for the sales, they have risen to 5,419,841 units worldwide (+5.5%). Most of these – 4,209,410 vehicles, up 0.6% YoY – have found new owners outside of Japan. Things were lively on the domestic market as well with 1,210,431 cars sold in total and a 26.9% year-on-year growth observed in the subcompact market.
