Toyota plans to remind the world about its versatile vehicle platform known as IMV at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show. It originally debuted in Thailand last December (see video) and will be returning this month with a multitude of mods to showcase its usefulness.
The IMV 0 is a body-on-frame truck platform with a single cab styled like the company’s other recent creations. The bed space allows for the installation of all kinds of mods. The prototype is 5,300 mm long, 1,785 mm wide and 1,740 mm tall with 3,085 of space between the axles (inches: 207 x 70 x 68; 120.5).
According to the manufacturer, the idea is that the chassis can be used by businesses in a variety of scenarios – as a panel truck, a flatbed, a mobile store, or a food truck. It can also be outfitted as an ambulance or a vehicle for off-road tours. The latter use scenario envisions it either as a hardcore off-road truck or a camper.
There is still no mention of the specifications or availability dates, but Toyota said back in late 2022 that a production run was in the plans. Representatives added that the expertise gained from designing the IMV 0 will come in handy in developing the next generations of the Hilux and Fortuner, among other things.
