The Japan Mobility Show is right around the corner, and Toyota will be attending it with an all-electric pickup truck prototype called the EPU. Here are its first images and specifications.
According to earlier statements from the automaker, the EPU will become a production vehicle in a couple of years, so let’s take a closer look at it. It has a four-door, five-seat cabin and a fairly short bed. At 5,070 mm long (198 inches), 1,910 mm wide (74.6 in) and 1,710 mm tall (66.8 in) with 3,350 mm (130.9 in) of wheelbase, it is comparable to the gas-powered Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz. The same applies to its unibody design. The company believes the truck will appeal to active leisure enthusiasts.
Inside, there is a yoke-shaped multi-function steering wheel and two displays – the dash and the head unit.
Toyota revealed a strategy this spring according to which it intended to design ten completely new electric vehicles before 2026. One of them was a pickup truck for the emerging markets – perhaps the EPU is its predecessor.
