Toyota announces 1,000-hp GR Super Sport hypercar

The racing subdivision of Toyota confirmed it has been working on GR Super Sport, a hypercar series based on carbon bodywork. The company provided no estimates regarding its price.

The original GR Super Sport Concept debuted at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January 2018. The same vehicle has been recently brought to the 24 Hours Le Mans.

The car will ship with a hybrid drivetrain rated at 1,000 hp / 745 kW. It will incorporate the same 2.4-liter turbo V6 engine as the one installed on the ТS050 Hybrid racecar that participates in the WEC.

On an important note, the WEC regulations will be amended in 2020 to enable car manufacturers to build hypercars as close to their mass-produced versions as possible. This means that the GR Super Sport will also be able to enter the championship in 2020.
