Toyota 86 GR gets a lighter “Sport” edition

The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has been building its GR sport car lineup since 2017. The family already contains performance SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks and minivans – as well as the Toyota 86 GR coupe, which has got a lighter “Sport” edition earlier today.

Compared to the base model, the GR Sport features stronger brakes, 17-inch wheels and reworked front bumper/splitter design. The vehicle can take advantage of various optional equipment listed in the GR Parts catalog, including custom wheels, body kits parts, spacers, and even a track camcorder.

There are a few interior changes as well: The Toyota 86 GR Sport has a differently designed steering wheel and a tachometer with a white background.

The car has kept its stock 2.0-liter boxer engine capable of 200 or 207 hp (149 – 154 kW), depending on the transmission.

Most remarkably, car enthusiasts who were looking forward to buying a Toyota GR vehicle will appreciate the price tag it comes with. While the base model costs as much as U.S. $45,000, its lightweight counterpart is only $34,000.

Regrettably, the GR vehicle family is only available in Japan so far, and Toyota has no plans of expanding beyond that.
