China-spec Voyah Dreamer proves safer than Toyota Alphard

An unusual crash test involving a head-on collision of a Voyah Dreamer and a Toyota Alphard was performed in China at a speed of 66 km/h (41 mph). Both minivans were entry-level specs made for China, but one was nearly three times as expensive.

Specifically, the Toyota comes in at a cool 1,000,000 Yuan, or $140,000. The Voyah undercuts it with a starting price as low as 370,000 Yuan ($52,000). In the test, the Alphard failed rather spectacularly with its emergency alarm never turning on, it’s a- and b-pillars utterly crumpled, and its rear doors jamming.

The test mannequins serving as the Toyota’s “passengers” ended up with severe injuries. The driver’s mannequin had its head, legs and chest injured in the collision, while the second-row occupants were at risk of head and chest injuries. In the Voyah, the driver’s mannequin got off with leg and chest injuries and the rear passenger with moderate chest damage.

The Voyah Dreamer is slightly longer and wider than the Toyota Alphard, but less tall. On its domestic market, it is sold exclusively in electrified and all-electric forms.
