Toyota opens preorders for the bZ4X in North America, reveals pricing

Toyota has launched its all-electric SUV in the United States and revealed what trim levels and motors will be available.

The entry-level sticker is $42,000 USD before taxes, making the bZ4X one of the priciest Toyotas on its ‘eco-friendly’ lineup. In fact, only the hydrogen-powered Mirai sedan costs more in that segment of the market. If you include ICE cars, the Supra and the Sequoia are both more expensive.

In the United States, the off-roader will be available in only two different versions called XLE and Limited. The latter will set you back $48,780 before options.

Considering alternatives, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 starts marginally higher at $43,650. The Ford Mustang Mach‐E is a touch more expensive still at $43,895. The technically related Subaru Solterra has not begun shipping yet.

Customers may choose between two main specifications: one motor with 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and two motors with AWD and 217 PS (214 hp / 160 kW). Range depends on your chosen spec and varies between 367 and 405 km (228 – 251 miles). Accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) takes 7.1 seconds with one motor and 6.5 seconds with two.
