Toyota bZ4X gets a $15,000 price hike in Utah

If you have been following Toyota news lately, you probably know that the battery-electric bZ4X is far from everyone’s dream car right now. You’d expect the sales to be slow, but a dealership in Bountiful, Utah is selling one for eye-watering $70,507 right now – a fifteen-grand premium over the standard price.

Granted, the example on sale has the Performance package installed, but that one comes in at just $2,494. You can check out the screenshot for yourself in case the ad gets pulled from the website. In fact, InsideEVs.com has already contacted the dealership and received a reply stressing the ‘limited availability’ of the SUV.

Now, far be it from us to suspect foul play on the dealer’s side, but consider this: in December 2022, Toyota managed to move a grand total of 634 bZ4X units un the United States. Compare that to its most direct rival – the Tesla Model Y, which enjoys 21,000 or so sales every month.

Not helping the Japanese electric soft-roader is the fact that the manufacturer had to announce a large-scale recall almost immediately after launch. That it was announced over inadequately secured wheels falling off during driving was just a cherry on top, really.
