Japanese automaker Toyota has come out with a new version of its Camry sedan/saloon restricted to the domestic market. One version of the car is called ‘e-Four’ and boasts an all-wheel drive system thanks to the added electric motor.
The standard Camry hybrid comes rated at 211 hp (157 kW) and draws most of its power from a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. The e-Four additionally gets a rear-axle-mounted electric motor that increases the total performance to 218 hp (163 kW).
The new Camry primarily targets residents of northern and mountainous regions of Japan, where roads can get slippery in wintertime. The e-AWD add-on only engages when the car is skidding and turns off as soon as it hits 10 km/h (6.2 mph).
The new Toyota Camry e-Four will become available in mid-December.
