Toyota has brought an all-wheel-drive version of the Camry sedan/saloon to the United States. Let us have a closer look at it.
A different AWD Camry is also available in Japan, where it comes as a hybrid car with an electric motor mounted on the rear axle. In contrast, the U.S. version packs a more traditional AWD design with an internal combustion engine and the same clutch as in the RAV4.
The new four-wheel drive system is available as an option for the 2.5-liter, naturally aspirated engine version of the car that ships with the eight-speed automatic gear. This version weighs almost 80 kg (175 lbs) more than the standard one and delivers around 205 hp (152 kW) to the wheels. The rear axle is usually connected whenever the front wheels start skidding, and can receive up to 50% of the total torque. Aside from this scenario, the car goes FWD by default.
Aside from Japan, the somewhat cross-country-capable Camry will only be sold in the USA.
