The wallet-friendly Toyota Camry has always been valued as a reliable sedan to drive to work and back, but hardly ever as a car worth customizing. Looking at what Austin Lee Ingram, from Indiana, did with his copy, however, we wonder if it deserves more love than we were giving it.
The man found his 1991 Camry (XV10) exceptionally dull-looking, for a variety of good reasons. But instead of giving it an aftermarket wheel set or a few snazzy and cheap-looking aero kit parts, he came up with something altogether more aesthetically mature.
He painted the body to resemble fresh rust and fitted it with a ducktail rear spoiler and fenders made from… throwaway number plates. To complete the rat look, he pierced the hood with an exhaust pipe and cut a huge window in the roof. The only glass remaining of the dome is the windshield.
One can argue about the practical merits of ratlook tuning, but one thing is certain: this Camry is one hell of a stylish ride, and it may as well draw more attention to itself than supercars, of which there is no shortage in America.
Well done, Austin Lee Ingram!
