New Toyota Camry and RAV4 due out in 2024

Drive, a car news website based in Australia, reports citing its own sources that the Toyota Camry and RAV4 will transition into their respective next generations in 2024. The sedan will allegedly come slightly ahead of the SUV, but will make do with a relatively modest facelift.

The development of the new Camry sedan is reportedly in full swing, but all technical info remains to be revealed. All we know is that it will be based on the same TNGA-K platform, but will be getting new bodywork. That, and its lifecycle may prove longer than that of its successors.

According to Drive, the engine lineup is also due a major revision. Apparently, 80.2 percent of all Camry units sold in Australia were hybrids, so it would make sense for the automaker to prioritize them. Some markets, like Japan and Europe, are already getting exclusively hybrids, while some others may keep ICE engines around for much longer. This includes the USA, where ICE Camry sales amount to 85 percent. The old 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 may leave that market soon, though, like it did with some others, making room for a newer 2.4-liter turbo four-pot.

The production of the next-gen Camry in the USA is expected to begin in April 2024. Japan still doesn’t have an ETA.

As for the RAV4, it is slated to go into production in North America in October 2024 based on the same TNGA-K platform as before. The biggest changes are expected in the trim options department – larger displays are almost a granted, for example. If the non-electrified 2.5-liter version drops out of the lineup, the RAV4 may also go hybrid-only in the United States.
