The U.S. office of Toyota has confirmed that the next-generation Camry will debut on Tuesday, November 14. It has also released a new teaser pic suggesting that the model will get a hybrid all-wheel-drive version in North America.
The first teaser published earlier was devoid of any unique details, so we couldn’t even identify it as belonging to a Camry. The second image is accompanied by a text that explicitly states the new Camry is coming next week. It also shows a narrow-slit taillight next to a tailgate with the self-explanatory ‘HEV’ and ‘AWD’ badges on it.
Those in the market for a four-wheel-drive Camry in the United States can already buy one now, but the multi-plate clutch it uses on the rear axle is compatible exclusively with ICE engines. In Japan, the Camry is available with a part-electric AWD system called e-Four, but that one drives the rear axle with a tiny motor rated at a low 7 horsepower (5.2 kilowatts).
In contrast, the American version should offer a superior AWD experience thanks to a more powerful e-motor. The text even promises to elevate it ‘to new heights.’ The slogan is not explained, but we suspect that the car may get some off-road features similar to those implemented in the latest Crown sedan.
