Toyota patents a mysterious new SUV, might be the next C-HR

IP Australia has shared images of a compact Toyota-branded crossover SUV not looking like any other model on the manufacturer’s lineup. Drive believes that the company plans to introduce a new electric CUV sized below the bZ4X. Another guess points towards a new C-HR.

The car features details typical for other Toyota EVs, which suggests it could be fully electric as well. Looking smaller than the bZ4X, it might end up being the rumored bZ2X model. Toyota did reveal a compact off-roader called the Small SU EV in late 2021, saying it would later make a part of its extensive electric car lineup.

Still, even though the mystery model lacks visible tailpipes, it does have what appears to be a real radiator grille. Unless it is an elaborately disguised solid trim panel, it could hint at a combustion engine hiding under that hood. The latest C-HR has roughly the same outlines, so it might as well be it. And as for the bZ-specific design traits we have come to see as ‘electric’ – well, the latest-gen Toyota Crown has them as well, even in ICE car flavor.

We will hopefully learn more soon, when the model debuts on official terms.
