Japanese carmaker Toyota has co-designed a new version of its Corolla bestseller with U.S.-based bike manufacturer TREK.
The cross-country-capable Corolla is based on the Touring Sports trim and boasts protective moldings made of black plastic, a new radiator grille with a honeycomb pattern, LED headlights, enhanced anti-fog lights, 17-inch wheels, and 20 mm (0.8”) of added ride height.
The cabin comes wrapped in two-tone fabric and sports imitation-wood inserts alongside TREK logos. It houses a redesigned 7-inch digital dash and a multimedia system with an 8-inch touchscreen display. Driver aids and extras include adaptive cruise control, cyclist detection, and electric tailgate.
The Toyota Corolla TREK comes powered by a hybrid system based on a gasoline engine with either 1.8 or 2.0 liters of displacement. The former delivers 120 hp (90 kW) to the wheels, while the latter ranks 58 hp (43 kW) above. The transmission type is CVT, and the front-wheel drive is the only one you can get.
First vehicles should start shipping before the end of the year. Prices will be announced later; unofficial sources in the UK say £29,000 will be the starting point.
