Multiple sources have reported Toyota’s plans to launch a performance version of the Corolla hatchback in Europe in 2023 or thereabouts.
Right now, the only thing claimed as confirmed is that the series will wear the Gazoo Racing badge. It is also reported that it will most likely be based on the same 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine as the GR Yaris (see video). A six-speed manual transmission will allegedly send up to 250 hp (186 kW) to the front wheels – and front wheels only. Unlike the GR Yaris, there will be no AWD for the Corolla.
The message adds that the car will be marketed in the same niche as the Ford Focus ST and the Hyundai i30 N, and will be pitched as an everyday driver’s car, rather than a track tool.
