While the hot Corolla GR promised to us a month ago is still in the works, the company has released a Special Edition Corolla with mostly stylistic improvements.
The car comes painted Supersonic Red and rides on top-of-the-line XSE wheels wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport 225/40 R18 rubber. It boasts a front splitter, side sill extensions, a rear spoiler, and special edition badges.
Technically, the car is still the entry-level SE spec, which uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine linked to a CVT box and front-wheel drive system. Its power amounts to 170 hp (127 kW) and torque to 205 Nm (150 lb-ft).
Prices remain to be announced, but the regular-looking SE starts from $22,345 in the United States. The production run will be limited to 1,500 units.
Later on, the high-end Corolla GR will emerge packing the same 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine as the new Yaris GR. Partnered with six-speed manual transmission and GR-Four AWD system, the mill will output up to 272 hp (203 kW) along with 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque to the wheels.
