Toyota Corolla-based SUV scheduled for reveal tomorrow, July 9

Toyota has announced the forthcoming premiere of a mysterious crossover SUV based on the Corolla platform. The car will debut online on Thursday, July 9.

The press release states that the mild off-roader has 161 mm (6.3 inches) of ground clearance and comes based on the TNGA-C architecture of the latest C-HR. One out, it will compete against the likes of the Nissan Kicks, Subaru XV, Honda HR-V, and Mazda CX-30.

Rumor has it that the car will get a 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 141 hp (105 kW) and 175 Nm (129 lb-ft) of torque, which will operate in tandem with a CVT gearbox. Allegedly, an electrified version will also be available based on a 1.8-liter four-cylinder mill with 99 hp (74 kW) and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft). An electric motor will add 73 hp (54 kW) of its own, and with the transmission losses factored in, around 123 hp (92 kW) should reach the wheels.
