Toyota Corolla Cross debuts as a standalone model

Toyota has officially launched its Corolla Cross compact in Thailand. Despite sharing the name and the technical base with the Corolla sedan and hatchback, the car looks nothing like either of them.

Certain similarities can be observed in the cabin. In particular, the front panel and the infotainment display look the same.

The newcomer ships in two specifications. One has a petrol engine and CVT and offers 141 hp (105 kW). The other one combines a 1.8-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and electro-mechanical CVT for 172 hp (128 kW). Both are front-wheel drive only.

The SUV is going to remain exclusive to Thailand for the time being, but will eventually reach other markets as well, Toyota says.
