Toyota launches two sported-up models in Russia

The Japanese automotive giant had promised last summer to bring two Gazoo Racing cars to Russia in January 2021, and though it missed that deadline by a few weeks, new Corolla and C-HR GR Sport are now finally available through dealerships.

None of the two brings any powertrain modifications to the table. The Corolla GR Sport comes with a special exterior décor scheme, black roof, gloss black accents, 17-inch wheels with a two-tone finish, and a rear spoiler. Cabin highlights include seats with enhanced lateral support wrapped in leather and fabric, aluminum kick plates, red stitching throughout, and other such things.

The car ships in the Comfort trim level, which implies a 7-inch digital dash display, a multimedia system aware of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a reversing camera, and heating elements in the wheel, front seats, and windshield (located at the wipers’ parking spots).

The powertrain stays stock, meaning the new Corolla still relies on a 1.6-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 122 PS (121 hp / 90 kW), which is mated to a CVT.

The C-HR GR Sport uses the Hot trim level as the starting point and builds upon it with black accents, two-tone wheels and red interior stitching. An exclusive Ashen Grey exterior paint is available along with Alcantara-draped seats. The old two-liter engine still pumps out 148 PS (146 hp / 109 kW) through a CVT to the front wheels.

The cars are only available in select dealerships nationwide, specifically 17 locations for the Corolla GR Sport and only eight for the C-HR GR Sport.

On an interesting side note, Toyota had originally talked about “three GR Sport versions”; nothing has since been revealed regarding the mysterious third model.
