Toyota has shared images of a commercial wagon-shaped Corolla, which gets rid of its rear bench to be able to carry up to 1.3 cubic meters of cargo and items over 1.5 meters long.
Customers in Europe will only be able to obtain the new Corolla with a hybrid powertrain. The manufacturer claims it is the first commercial estate hybrid on the European continent.
The cargo bed is mostly flat and measures 1,558 x 1,430 millimeters, but narrows down to 952 millimeters at the wheel arches. The trunk liner is wear-resistant, and there is a stainless-steel partition wall between the cargo space and the front seats. The useful cargo space amounts to 1,326 liters, and the maximum load is 425 kilograms.
A 1.8-liter petrol engine drives the wheels alongside an electric motor with 120 PS (118 hp / 88 kW) and 142 Nm (105 lb-ft) of torque in total. Coupled to a CVT gearbox, they let the wagon sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 11.1 seconds.
Prices in the UK start from £26,510, which translates into U.S. $33,100 at the current rates. The passenger wagon version of the Corolla Hybrid retails for £27,635.
