Toyota’s latest foray into the cinema industry, dubbed The Shoot, centers around its hottest Corolla version and is packed with stunts, as well as conflicts between corporate execs and creative pros.
The plot follows a team of young people tasked with inventing a unique design for the car. They keep veering off the track and turning the Corolla into a stereotypical movie car – one that would fit in a western, one that would be Agent 007’s ride of choice, and ultimately one that belongs in a horror movie. The board management keeps rejecting all these concepts, though.
For example, no one is impressed when the car makes a badass U-turn on a dusty street. One of the bosses complains that he only sees dust, and that horsepower would be better demonstrated by actual live horses. He also suggests toning down the whole scene.
Over time, however, the general opinion of the board shifts bit by bit until everyone is suddenly OK with the wild stunts performed by the Corolla. The final version of the ad features a new GR Corolla, its counterpart from the 1970s and a duet of GR Supras performing all kinds of stunts, including jumping from a giant ramp.
