New Toyota Corolla debuts in Japan

The facelifted Toyota Corolla compact hatchback series has celebrated its official premiere on its domestic market in Japan. As you can see, it is almost an exact clone of its U.S. version.

The refreshed vehicle sports slightly differently styled lighting and new Toyota logos throughout the body and exterior – but that would be it for the differences between the Japanese model and its European and U.S. counterparts.

Engine availability is another story, however. The Japan-sold Toyota Corolla normally ships with hybrid drivetrain including a 1.8-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and an IVT. Those who are looking for a cheaper car may get it with a small turbocharged gasoline engine and manual transmission (or IVT).

The base configuration includes adaptive suspension, dynamic torque vectoring, the whole Toyota Safety Sense 2 package, and AWD.

Pre-orders will be available starting in June. Prices and availability will be announced later.
