Toyota has recently unveiled the North American version of its Corolla hatchback line. The domestic version premiered today.
Unlike its U.S.-oriented counterpart, the Japanese vehicle will be available both with the front drive and AWD. Another major difference comes in the form of a new model name: the updated series will be released in Japan under the title of “Toyota Corolla Sport”.
Two drivetrain choices will be available, a 1.2-liter turbo engine rated at 116 hp / 87 kW and a hybrid unit including a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 122 hp / 91 kW. All in all, the North American version is ahead in terms of performance, packing a 171hp / 128kW strong two-liter engine.
Options include an infotainment system with a sensor display and some advanced functions, sport seats, adaptive cruise control, and a DCM module providing access to certain remote services. The latter include remote car diagnostics using your phone or tablet, automatic emergency service calls, maintenance tips, and automatic dialing in to a call center operator whenever emergency brake lights are activated.
The safety package covers collision prevention, automatic hi/low beam switching, and lane control.
