Japanese car manufacturing company Toyota has successfully registered the new car name “Corolla Cross” in Europe. Perhaps this means that we will soon get a crossover utility vehicle based on the popular hatchback model but with added off-road features, such as protective pads on bumpers and kick plates or a larger road clearance.
If the car ever gets released, it is going to have to compete with the VW Golf Alltrak, Ford Focus Active, Chevrolet Spark Activ and Subaru Crosstrek in their market segment. And the odds of it being released are actually quite high, given that the hatchback/CUV segment is quite popular right now.
Car professionals expect the new Toyota Corolla Cross to come equipped with either a naturally-aspirated two-liter engine or a turbocharged 1.8L. As far as the transmission options, the car will likely ship with a stick shift and an IVT, just like its hatchback counterpart.
