Toyota teasers a CUV for China that we’ve all seen before

Toyota has released three teaser images supposed to herald the coming of a new ‘Frontlander’ CUV for China. Judging by them, it is just a Corolla Cross in disguise (watch the attached video and compare for yourself).

The photos reveal the outlines of the car and its individual exterior traits: the headlights and the radiator grille. Everything looks identical to the Japanese-spec Corolla Cross, while the U.S. spec has a different front bumper and grille.

In all likelihood, the Frontlander will also inherit the original’s 1.8-liter naturally aspirated engine with 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) and a hybrid powertrain good for 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW). An e-Four AWD version with a second motor in the back is also possible, but not guaranteed.

Toyota will produce the Frontlander at its jointly owned factory with GAC. The company also cooperates with FAW in China, and sometimes resorts to assembling one and the same car model in two factories under different names. For example, the Toyota RAV4 has a twin dubbed the Wildlander in that country.
