Toyota Motor Company may soon reveal the next generation of the Crown, offering it in FWD 4-Door Coupe and Crossover Coupe variants, BestCarWeb reports quoting inside sources.
The first generation of the Crown came out in the distant year 1955. Since then, it has stayed true to the RWD/longitudinal engine formula. The current generation (featured in the gallery and the video) has been around since 2018. If we were to trust the news, it would also be the last to make use of the drivetrain layout mentioned above. To cut costs, Toyota may launch the new Crown with a front wheel drive and a transversely mounted engine. AWD should still be an option, though.
According to BestCarWeb, the model will be based on the same TNGA GA-K platform as the Toyota Camry and the Lexus ES. A 2.5L hybrid is also possible, while the V6 will likely drop from the lineup.
In addition to the standard coupe version, a high-riding coupe/SUV may join the lineup with new bumpers and unpainted plastic moldings to protect the lower body.
There has been no official information about the release date. The source claims that sales will not start until fall 2023, but the reveal may take place later this year.
