Toyota Crown shows up on patent pics

The Toyota Crown looks like it is due a major design update heading into its next generation. The recently published patent photos reveal a car with certain coupe/SUV features.

Perhaps most importantly, the new Crown no longer looks like a three-space vehicle, but rather like a fastback with a flowing roofline. It also has an unusual shoulder line bending in the rear fender area.

There is no longer any vertical front grille, while the front bumper sports a Camry-style giant air intake. Other notable features include a sculpted hood and brand-new headlights.

The images revealed thus far prompt the assumption that the new Crown is a high-rider. An unpainted plastic body kit supports this idea. It could be a crossover, like the Mercedes-Benz All-Terrain or Volkswagen Alltrack series.

Unofficial sources claim the vehicle will be 85 mm (3.3 inches) taller and slightly longer and wider than its predecessor, but the wheelbase will shorten a bit. There is still no information about the engines, though.
