2023 Toyota Crown teased again with its new body shape

The next-gen Toyota Crown is coming soon, and the latest teaser video confirms that it now has a distinct new body style setting it apart from all predecessors. In fact, the video itself is wondering whether to call it a sedan or an SUV.

The exterior of the car more or less corresponds to what we saw on patent shots from late June. The new Crown fills the uncanny niche between crossover SUV and sedan with a fastback-like rear. It remains to be seen how popular the combo will be among buyers.

According to earlier reports, it utilizes the Toyota TNGA-K architecture and is 4,930 mm long with 2,850 mm between the axles. The same platform is also used by the Toyota Highlander.

Powertrain details remain a mystery, but it is worth noting that the platform supports MHEVs and PHEVs. Whether an all-electric version will be available is open to speculation, but rumors suggest it is a distinct possibility.

Toyota will take the wraps off the new Crown on Friday, July 15, 2022.
