Toyota is looking into expanding its Crown family of vehicles with a sported-up GR version, BestCarWeb reports citing own sources. Unlike the GR Corolla and the GR Yaris already on sale, it may end up with a hybrid powertrain when it arrives this summer.
The new Crown lineup consists of several vehicles with different body styles. The rumored GR Crown is said to be an SUV-like sedan: the company previewed a car like that when only beginning to reveal the new Crown range in the summer of 2022.
Assuming the reports are true, the car is coming to us with a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-pot churning out 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW). This would make the most powerful Crown hybrid on the market. With an electric motor factored in, the combined output should come close to 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW). A CVT will most likely be used for the transmission.
BestCarWeb adds that the GR Crown will have all other design features characteristic of Gazoo Racing cars. This implies a more rigid body structure, tuned suspension and a sportier-looking cabin. Price-wise, it should fall within the range of ¥7–7.5 million.
