Soon after Toyota unveiled the Compact Cruiser EV Concept along with 15 other electric cars in late 2021, it received a Car Design Award for the exterior. Now, the automaker took the concept one step further by reimagining it as a successor-of-sorts to the iconic FJ Cruiser.
The images depict a vehicle developed in the company’s design HQ in Nice, France. It is targeted towards activity-loving younger audiences from large cities, who like to spend their weekends in the country.
The design of the car is obviously inspired by the earlier Land Cruiser generations. According to Toyota Design Head Simon Humphries, it is envisioned as an integral component of its owner’s image. Humphries believes that, as soon as the initial stage of EVs gaining popularity worldwide is complete, owners of these cars will raise their expectations a notch, demanding that these cars reflect their lifestyles. The successor to the FJ Cruiser aims to deliver on that front, too.
