Toyota uses Land Cruiser FJ40 parts for a Moon rover prototype

To celebrate the 50th birthday of its innovation lab, Calty Design Research, Toyota has come up with a unique concept called Baby Lunar Cruiser (BLC). It is being touted as ‘an off-roader for navigating Earth and beyond.’

The compact vehicle looks not unlike a Moon rover crossbred with the latest Land Cruiser FJ40. It has a digital dashboard with Augmented Reality in the cabin, joysticks used to control the wheels shod in airless tires, and freely adjustable seats. A suite of cameras and sensors is included as well.

Among other things, Toyota’s most innovating department is dreaming about building a Mars rover capable of traversing over 10,000 kilometers (6,213 miles) of Martian terrain on hydrogen fuel cell power.
