A 1983 Toyota FJ45 Land Cruiser found a new owner in Phoenix, Arizona, USA this weekend. The pickup truck received a complete overhaul and had under 600 miles (965 km) on the odometer at the time of purchase. The winning bidder paid $84,000 – significantly higher than the estimates said ($50k–70k).
The FJ45 debuted as a long-wheelbase, weight-hauling pickup truck from Toyota’s J40 lineup (see video). It has since become a rarity of sorts and is now appreciated more than the SUV version. This particular example was rebuilt from the ground up with its exterior preserved.
It is now finished in olive green with the roof offset in white, and rides on 15-inch steelies shod in BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain T/A rubber. The cabin makes use of brown leather.
Power for the all-wheel-drive system is supplied by a 4.2-liter inline-six engine from Toyota’s 2F series, which comes bundled with a manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. When stock, this engine produced 135 PS (133 hp / 99 kW) and 285 Nm (210 lb-ft) of torque. Whether this is still the case is not specified in the listing.
Elsewhere, the truck rides on Old Man Emu suspension and benefits from modern wiring, anti-fog lamps and a Warn winch. The driver gets an MP3 player hooked up to a nice audio system. A tire jack and a body-matching fuel can were included in the lot, too.
