Papadakis Racing transforms the Toyota GR86 into a drift car worthy of champions

The California-based drift racing team of Papadakis Racing has been leading the scoreboards for a decade and a half already, and this freshly built Toyota GR86 drift tool should help keep things that way.

The whole project took two months to complete. The main idea was to swap the stock Subaru inline four-cylinder engine for the B58 straight-six found in the BMW Z4 and, more recently, the A90 Toyota Supra. The team addressed the issue of two cylinders dangling from the front end in a creative way by ignoring it altogether, arguing that frontal collisions were barely a thing in drift racing.

Other modifications included the installation of an Inconel manifold and the replacement of the entire braking system with the addition of a handbrake.

According to the team, the most challenging task was to extend the quarterpanel windows to allow for nitrous oxide tanks to be placed there. On the outside, the sports car wears a dashing Rocket Bunny aero kit.

The GR86 is a one-off custom job, and it will participate in upcoming drift tournaments.
