The Toyota GR 86 is renowned for its great handling and drift car credentials, but someone in the USA reckoned he would be better off with it sending 900 horsepower to the wheels. Check out these two videos to see how it went.
For starters, the host of 144.Printhouse & Racestudio on YouTube got rid of the stock 3.0-liter engine, swapping it for the legendary 3.4-liter 2JZ mill sourced from an A80 Supra. As you can see, there were some initial issues with coolant leaks the water and fuel pumps shutting down due to overheating. Even despite these issues, the engine was able to push 447 PS (440 hp / 329 kW) to the rear wheels at around 6,500 RPM.
Fast-forward a week, and the build was largely finished. The second video is worth watching solely for the sake of hearing the 2JZ sing its timeless song in the GR 86. We aren’t sure how close the car is to its power goal at this moment, but it’s already clear that the swap was a success.
