The Toyota GR 86 and its close relative, the Subaru BRZ, are now eligible for some tuning improvements from Kuhl Racing. Both will be exhibited at the Tokyo Auto Salon over the next several days, but most details are already available.
The tuning kit is called Outroad and endows the sporty Japanese coupes with a pinch of off-road aesthetic – if not necessarily capability. It starts with heavy-duty bumpers with enlarged air intakes, flared fenders housing meaty off-road tires, and an auxiliary light rack on the roof. The list continues to mention 18-inch Verz wheels, new brake calipers and a matte full-body wrap for extra style points.
If that’s still not enough style points for you, Kuhl offers a set of racing-grade coilovers that can be installed to raise the ground clearance by roughly 3 inches (76 mm). A special suspension lift kit based on hydraulics will add another 1.6 inches (40 mm) if desired.
Last but not least, the 2.4-liter boxer engine under the hood gains a new oil cooler and tweaked software, rising far above its stock 235 PS (232 hp / 173 kW). That’s what the company claims, at least – we are hoping to learn the specifics when the show opens.
