Toyota promises gaming consoles to first 500 Grand Highlander buyers

The first 500 customers to buy a new Toyota Grand Highlander SUV in North America will be getting a Nintendo Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe installed. To draw the public attention to the promo, Toyota will be exhibiting a special show car at the Chicago Auto Show grounds where the original debuted (see video).

The full-size SUV on display flaunts a red wheel set and wears a tricolor livery with Nintendo Switch logos all around. It has huge displays in the cabin installed along with an audio system and the console itself, which is of a hybrid kind – meaning you can plug it into a TV as a home entertainment system or take it with you and play portable.

The Grand Highlander is positioned as an upmarket alternative to the Highlander model it is based upon, although both use the same GA-K architecture. Customers in the USA will be getting it this summer in seven- and eight-seat versions with three trim levels and just as many powertrains to choose from.

The entry spec runs on a 2.4-liter petrol turbo. The middle spec is a hybrid based on a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine. Rounding off the list is a Hybrid Max spec rated at 367 PS (362 hp / 270 kW), which offers the most power and torque of the three but remains to be revealed in full.
