Toyota 86 GT Black Limited Edition debuts in Japan

Toyota has launched the GT Black Limited version of its 86 sports coupe in Japan. Out of the planned production run of 86 units, one half will ship with manual and the other with automatic transmission.

The series draws inspiration from the historical Sprinter Trueno GT-Apex Black Limited Edition, which emerged in 1986 in a batch of just 400 cars.

Aside from the self-evident jet-black paintjob, every special 86 GT will get 17-inch wheels with a coppery finish, Brembo brakes, plastic under shields, a rear spoiler, and Sachs shock absorbers.

The cabin will also stay as dark as possible while taking advantage of luxury trimming materials, including genuine leather, Alcantara and Grand Lux (another artificial material reminiscent of wash-leather).

On the technical side of things, the limited batch will stay stock. This means that the standard opposite-four engine will continue to ship 200 hp (150 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) to the wheels via the manual transmission. Opting for automatic will add 7 hp and 7 Nm to the specs.
